Welcome to Dogpatch

A vibrant neighborhood and community enriched by artists and makers.

First inhabited by the families of maritime and industrial workers, Dogpatch survived the 1906 earthquake far more intact than almost any other neighborhood. In 2002, this part of town was officially designated as a historic district of the city of San Francisco, though the origin of its unique name is not certain. Both Dogpatch and the Central Waterfront, more broadly, offer a plethora of residential real estate options. 1860 Victorian cottages live side by side with exquisite mid-rises featuring penthouse views, private patios, and garages. Historic buildings offer expansive windows in live/work environments full of exposed brick, period details, and loads of character. Each of the older homes in the neighborhood is a particular piece of history. A great many former factories and warehouses have been transformed into live/work lofts, exciting restaurants, or technology incubators.

The proximity of this neighborhood to all types of transportation including the 3rd street Muni Light Rail, Caltrain, Tech Shuttles, and Highways 101 and 280 make it uniquely situated for business and residential use, as well as create constant demand for the neighborhood. Furthering the demand is the beautiful and sunny weather throughout the year, as well as the continually expanding commercial districts.

People & Lifestyle

Dogpatch is San Francisco’s premier “old meets new” neighborhood and the population reflects this diversity. People of all ages and backgrounds can find something for them in Dogpatch and enjoy the convenience and connectivity of its location. Across 16th Street is Mission Bay, which is the new headquarters for the UCSF Research campus, Benioff Children's Hospital, the DropBox campus, Uber campus, and a new arena for the Golden State Warriors.

With the Muni line, Caltrain, Tech Shuttles, and 280/101 freeway access, residents can live in a vibrant San Francisco neighborhood, but access jobs anywhere in the Bay Area with relative convenience.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Food lovers who call Dogpatch home are treated to a wide array of innovative local options including Piccino, Serpentine, Neighbor Bakehouse, Longbridge Pizza, Gilberth's, Wooly Pig, La Fromagerie, Marcella's Lasagneria, Ungrafted, and Mission Rock Resort. And you can just imagine the interesting spaces some of these eateries inhabit. Serpentine is located in a former tin can factory’s boiler room.

Olivier’s Butchery, DIG Wine, which specializes in Italian and French wines, Mr. and Mrs. Miscellaneous ice cream, and The Lab by Recchuiti Chocolates, are some of the specialty stores that bring people from across the Bay Area to Dogpatch, but that residents frequent as part of a simple stroll through the neighborhood. A nearby Whole Foods Market helps supplement ingredients for all the diehard home cookers. Dogpatch is also surrounded by some enormously appealing neighborhoods including Mission Bay and Potrero Hill's 18th Street and 20th Street corridors, which features even more trendy bars, cafes, and restaurants.

Things to do

Locals love gathering at Esprit Park for a relaxing break while their dogs romp and socialize. And you're always just a skip and a jump from downtown, where folks can enjoy the farmers’ market at the Ferry Plaza and a nice waterfront stroll.

The new waterfront development is underway with the Chase Center opening in 2019 and Crane Cove Park coming soon! Catching a Giants game is just a short walk away along the waterfront through Mission Bay, where you can also stop for food and drinks at Spark Social Food Truck Park, or a round of miniature golf at Stagecoach Greens. To the south is the Minnesota Street Project, an exciting art gallery that is funded to support Bay Area artists.

Dogpatch is also a bit of the Brewery capital of San Francisco, with the likes of Magnolia, Harmonic, and Triple Voodoo all calling Dogpatch home. And of course, San Francisco Staple, Anchor Brewery, is in neighboring Potrero Hill.

Schools

Elementary and public schools are lacking in the neighborhood, but two exciting Preschools, La Scuola and Potrero Kids, are premier schools that draw families from across the city and beyond. Also, an amazing in-home Daycare, Busy Little Bees, provides families terrific care for their young children before they are off to preschool.

  • La Scuola, (Independent), Preschool
  • Potrero Kids (Independent), Preschool
  • Busy Little Bees (in-home daycare), age 0-4
